The Consolidated PBY patrol bomber amphibian was one of the most important aircraft of World War II. It served in every theater of the war hunting submarines, patrolling for enemy ships, and on search and rescue missions. While they are best known for their service with the U.S. Navy. Catalinas also flew with the Army Air Force, the British, Australians, and virtually all the other Allied powers. Demand for the aircraft was so great that additional factories had to be set up to build them. Large numbers were built in Canada and nicknamed Canso. Some of these aircraft found their way back into U.S. service with the Army Air Force where they were designated as OA-10As.
