Lockheed C-69 (L-049) Constellation
The Lockheed Constellation is widely regarded as one of the best of the post-World War II piston-engine airliners. Originally designed in 1939 for Trans World Airline the first “Connies” flew in 1942. The first aircraft were impressed by the Army Air Forces during World War II and saw brief service as passenger transports. These aircraft were returned to the airlines after the war and along with over 800 other Constellations saw service with most of the world’s major airlines well into the 1960s.
