STEEN SKYBOLT

This aircraft is not currently on public display.

The Skybolt is a conventional metal tube and fabric construction homebuilt biplane.  It was designed by Lamar Steen as a high school engineering project.  The first one flew in 1970.  Since then they have become a popular homebuilt aircraft.  They are straightforward to build and are stressed for aerobatics.  The original version of the Skybolt used a Lycoming HO-360 engine, but later versions were able to use the more powerful Lycoming O-540 series.  Over 400 Skybolts are known to have been built in 29 different countries.
